High School Musical

We’re Soaring After this TY Musical!

The music and script came courtesy of one of the most popular Disney Channel original movies of all time; a movie that has spawned multiple sequels, a TV show, a hit stage show, and includes songs that have been lodged in the brains of an entire generation (and possibly their unwitting parents)! Many would be daunted by the prospect… our TYs didn’t bat an eyelid! Over three days they put on four wildly successful sold-out shows in front of packed and appreciative audiences.

This was a musical that appealed to every generation; the catchiest songs and music, smooth dance moves, dazzling sets, and many heart-warming, yet realistic, messages. There were also laughs. Tons of them thanks to a whip-smart script, and the atmosphere in LIT’s Millennium Theatre was electric as every perfectly timed one-liner was served up to delighted audiences all weekend.

Obviously, shows like this don’t happen by luck or accident, so there are a lot of people to thank. First and foremost are the school communities of both Ardscoil Mhuire and St Munchin’s College for their support of the musical and the students involved over the past three months. Our TY Coordinator, Ms G. O’Brien, ensured that every single TY student had a role to play and supported them all graciously throughout the entire process. It was a visually stunning show on many levels, so we must thank Mr Conner and Ms Bolger for their work on backdrops and sets, as well as Ms Delaney, Ms Ryan, and Ms K. O’Brien for all of their work on costumes. Ms Clery (musical director), Ms Curley (producer/director), and Lisa Hogan (choreographer) are all owed a huge thanks for their dedication and vision in directing and producing a show that was more exciting than any of us could have possibly predicted.

Finally, we cannot overlook our incredible TY class! They were outstanding, and have certainly made us proud! They all displayed an impressive work ethic over several months on and off the stage. They can be proud of themselves too as their display of energy, enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work resulted in a spectacular show that will undoubtedly have many teachers, students, friends, and family members talking for quite a while to come! Congratulations to all involved in ‘High School Musical’ in 2019 and for reminding us that “we’re all in this together!”
