Ardscoil Mhuire is delighted to announce that we are applying for our first green flag.

We are currently working on the theme of litter and waste. The project is being spearheaded by the TY students who lead an enthusiastic Green Schools Committee with representatives from all year groups. Check out our facebook page for photos! The Green school committee are lead by the Transition year students from classesTY1 and TY2.

6th years Head girl (Lorna Boland) and Deputy Head girl (Lauren O Holloran) this is part of the role and they liaise with the students’ council which is most beneficial.
5th years : Beth Bennett, Aisling Ryan

1st years: Megan Mc Mahon & April Quinn, Ailish Creane
Other representatives include staff reps, the green schools coordinator, the caretaker, reps from the student council.

Activities form our action plan include:

Reduce waste to landfill by 10%. Maintain levels of recycling by minimisation (i.e. don’t produce it no more than 5 x 1,100litre bins per month recycling), Action day (first years), Reduce photocopying by 5%, set up committee, litter and waste review, action day first years, poster competition, new recycling bins, litter rota, 100 % litter free status on the corridors, school clean up, 2nd year visit recycling centre, blackspots, green board, battery recycling, clean grove island and get more bins, tidy staffroom, school website and emailing/ text home, reusing paper (box), chipboard over lockers, notices e.g. at radiators, work with St. Munchin’s College on litter and waste, to name but a few!
