Parents’ Council

The school has an active and vibrant Parents’ Council.  The principle aims of the Council are:

  • To promote the School, its image, aims and philosophies by encouraging active participation of all parents.
  • To promote better understanding between the management, teachers and parents.
  • To support the management, teachers and pupils in any areas where they require help concerning the school or its activities.

The Council meets regularly during the academic year, and its AGM is held at the beginning of each academic year. Membership of the Council is voluntary.

Parents Council Events

Ardscoil Mhuire has a longstanding tradition of parental involvement through a vibrant and hardworking Parents’ Council.  Previous councils have passed on a legacy of support for the school through various activities and ensured the continuing work of today’s council. Some of the activities still carried out annually have been in existence for more than twenty years.

This year to date the council have organised carol singing at the Crescent Shopping Centre and raised funds for local charities. This is a lovely community event with retired staff, parents, past and presents pupils all singing their hearts out. The Society of Vincent de Paul distributes the proceeds at Christmas to families in the area in need of a little extra support.

On the 19th of May this year we held a Bingo night to raise money towards the new school extension. It was a great night, and fun was had by all both young and old. The event could have not have gone ahead without the generous support of local businesses and sponsorship by the school’s suppliers. With the exciting new plans for the school we will be continuing extensively fundraising throughout the next few years… so watch this space!

We are a small group and are always grateful for extra ideas and input. If any parent is interested in joining please feel free to do so. We will welcome new members at any time of the year. It is not a huge commitment as we meet usually twice per term.

Evening Classes:

Evening classes are run every year for parents and adult members of the community. The classes change from year to year depending on interest and demand. However, there are a few favourites which we run every year. This year sees the continuance of an established Spanish language group. This group of enthusiasts are working with tutor, Flora Sammartino, a native of Argentina. They hope to progress and get accreditation through exams. We wish them the best of luck. Ardscoil Mhuire as a whole school is working towards being awarded an Amber flag this year. The flag symbolises the work done in the school in the area of mental health and wellbeing. To coincide with this an evening class on mindfulness called ‘Time For Me’ is being taken by a group of adults in the community under the experienced guidance of Anita Martin. After Christmas we will continue the established Spanish class and will start a beginners class if there is demand for it. Also in the pipeline are a number of other classes: Flytying with John Prior, Movement to Music with Joan Conran and Beauty and Skincare with Maeve McNamara. The classes are provided free of charge as they are funded by Limerick Adult Education Service. We are grateful for this service.
