Poetry Aloud

Published Date

The Poetry Aloud competition is a great way for aspiring public speakers to build their confidence whilst also learning to appreciate a wide range of Irish poems.  This year saw nearly twenty students from First, Second and Third Year travel to the Glór Theatre in Ennis to take part in the regional heats.  The girls gave powerful, emotional performances and received no small amount of praise.  Building on our success in previous years was Therese Houghton, who was selected to participate in the competition’s All-Ireland semi-final in the National Library of Ireland in Dublin.  Therese’s performances of classic Irish poetry on the day of the semi-final were very well received.  Although she did not progress to the final, she did ASM, and herself, extremely proud.
